Does bookkeeping count as experience for accounting?

I just got a job as a bookkeeper for a small company. I am going to school to get a degree in accounting, i was wondering does this count as experience for accounting. Someone told me that this bookkeeping can get me a good job after i graduate and i can make good money with it. Will this job really help me in landing good job after i get a degree? Any personal experiences?

I am currently planning to major in accounting and i was told i will have to take 2 classes of statistics too.
